January 2024 Update
I am not in a position to take on new clients at present. I will update you when the situation changes.
An art therapy session typically involves the therapist inviting you to select some art materials and use these to express a sense of what is going on. The artwork is unique and can tell more than words can say. Exploring the art-making process and the finished piece with the therapist can help to see your experience differently.
You may create a piece of art and choose not to talk about it – the process of making the piece is therapeutic in itself and it may be that the client will revisit the piece at a later date. In a therapy session, you may not feel like making art and just want to talk – the time is yours. You will find it a nurturing and safe place to be.
Single session therapy
For instance, if an issue is bothering you that you don’t feel you can share with your friends it may be helpful to discuss this with a therapist.
Further help is always available – single-session therapy is an acknowledgement by both the client and the therapist that the work for that session is focused on one topic.
One-at-a-time therapy
This often happens with clients who have completed some therapy work and come back occasionally to deal with an issue.
Short term therapy
This is suitable if there is a specific issue to be dealt with or support is needed at a difficult time.
Long term therapy
This approach is suitable for clients who want to take time each week to engage in creative work to assist in developing their self-awareness, strengthening their self-esteem, and overcoming stress, anxiety, and depression.
